Flash2xs.com LLC Policies on Artwork

Flash2xs.com, LLC (Flash2xs.com and TattooFinder.com) primarily selects tattoo artwork/flash to sell that has either previously demonstrated a market demand, or that is determined to have good market potential at the present or in the future. Flash2xs.com, LLC is a business, and we of course look at the financial implications in our artwork selection process.

We also realize that “artistic expression” can be a touchy subject for many people. While in general we do not want to take a censoring approach to the artwork we offer, there is simply some artwork that we will not display and/or sell. First, we do not sell any artwork that would be in violation of U.S. or international copyright law. For example, Tweety Bird and Taz, logos of sports teams, and other corporate logos are very popular tattoo designs, but they are also copyrighted information. Therefore, we do not sell artist renditions of this type of artwork.

Second, we do not sell artwork that specifically promotes violence towards any living individual or specific group of people. While this of course is a somewhat relative concept (what is “hateful” to one person may not be “hateful” to another), we will not sell artwork that we deem to be overtly racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, anti-ethnic, pro-Nazi/supremacist, misogynist or that in general condones violence to any specific living person or specific group of people.

We recognize that this is sometimes a fine line to walk. One example might be the confederate flag. While this particular sample can be interpreted to support slavery or racism, for others it promotes a geographical pride (the southern U.S.) and/or a historical period in U.S. history, or even the “biker” culture. While some might find this symbol offensive, we have made the determination to allow designs of this nature to be sold through our business as long as they do not include any racist elements in the design.

Religion is another tricky area. Clearly, there are religious symbols that dominate in various cultures such as a cross or a Star of David. We doubt there would be many complaints about selling designs of this nature, though some might still find them "offensive". But there are also “religious” symbols that are less mainstream, or that may include depictions of rebellion from mainstream religious cultures. We see this as valid forms of religious expression, and we therefore do not censor this type of artwork unless it specifically promotes violence towards specific living religious figures or promotes violence towards any specific religious group.

Misogyny is another complicated concept when it comes to tattoo artwork. While one person may see a “sexy” female as degrading towards women, another might see it as a beautiful expression of the human body. Bringing a sexual element into the mix can further hit peoples’ emotional buttons. What is sexy to one person may be offensive to another. “Assertive” forms of sexual expression for example may bring up emotions arising from past abuse/violence for one individual, yet it may be represent an erotic form of consensual sexual expression for another.

We, the Owners of Flash2xs.com, LLC recognize that we inherently assume a certain amount of power by making determinations of what artwork appears on our sites for sale, and what artwork does not. We recognize that in a sense, this is at its core a form of censorship. But while we simply will not allow certain types of artwork to appear on our sites, we do try to take a certain amount of latitude with the understanding that just because something makes some people feel “uncomfortable”, it doesn’t mean we should censor it. However, our portfolio of artwork is vast and new artwork is being added all the time to our websites. We welcome input from our customers, and if someone sees artwork they feel breaks our own “rules”, we would hope this would be brought to our attention.

Additionally on the TattooFinder.com website, we allow users to choose for themselves if they want to view “mature” content or not, recognizing that some of the designs on the site might make people feel uncomfortable. So while some might be uncomfortable with particular selections of artwork that we have approved for display/sale, we provide the option for those visiting our websites to “self-censor” if they choose.

Some might say that one purpose of art can be specifically to provoke emotions . . . and sometimes a tattoo in and of itself is intended to create a reaction in others. So while we disallow certain artwork from being sold through our business, and while we may not personally “agree with” or “support” certain artwork that we do allow to be sold on our sites, we feel our approach to this issue is at the very least clearly thought through, and that in our opinion our approach is ethical.
